John Abraham amongst world's sexiest men

Bollywood hunk John Abraham has been voted as the only Indian among the world’s 25 sexiest men in a poll.

The poll was conducted by E News, a Hollywood network viewed in 600 million homes worldwide.

The well-sculpted body of John has paved his way for a world ranking in the midst of other hot bods. The list includes soccer star David Beckham, Jonathan Rhys Meyers of ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ fame, along with the ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ star Johnny Depp, and New Zealand rugby player Dan Carter.

Right now, John is in Philadelphia busy with his shoot of Yashraj Films’ New York , and he thinks that his smile scores higher than his body because “six packs cannot substitute for honesty in face.”

The actor believes that George Clooney is the sexiest man alive because at 47 he doesn’t hide his age and flaunts it while looking good, unlike Bollywood actors who try to look young.

John’s appeal is not only about brawns but also brain and heart. He is an active PETA activist and an eco-warrior who confesses shyly that his individuality makes him a winner.

The poll was about “the sexiest, scorching, beach-bound hard-bodies” and we also cast our vote in John’s favor.

Right girls!

John Abraham's masti on streets of Morocco

It is a languid sunny afternoon in the streets of Morocco. Enjoying his anonymity, John Abraham, sunglasses perched on his head, lazily strolls along, taking in the sights and sounds of a fruit market.

The market is like a fantasy, filled with fresh, colourful fruits of every imaginable type being sold by dark-haired kohl-eyed beauties.

John looks in no hurry to be anywhere else.

He stops at the nearest apple cart. He gestures to the beautiful woman to pack him a few.

She gives him the polite, professional smile and starts to pick out the fruits.

As he waits, he lowers his sunglasses onto his face.

Suddenly the woman drops the apples, vaults over her cart towards him, dramatically drapes herself around him and coos, “Bachao!”

Before a startled John can react, another beauty comes running down the street, leaps over the fallen apples, hides behind his back and whimpers “Bachao!”

He turns around in confusion. A third beautiful woman, cycling by, shouts “Bachao!”

Soon, heavily accented cries of “Bachao” from beautiful damsels in distress around him fill the air:

A woman hiding behind a lamp post; s woman walking her dog; a woman on a terrace overlooking the market; women from the other fruit stalls; vendors; customers; passers by!

John is in a daze. Confused onlookers look at him strangely. He shrugs at them. He has no idea why these women need saving and what he can do to help.

He takes his sunglasses off and looks around.

Suddenly the woman who started it all, the apple vendor, holds her wrist to her forehead (Nargis style) and whines “Naheeeeeen!

She goes back to her apple cart. The cries stop. The women disperse. Life is back to normal.

A knowing smile crosses his face as the gag dawns on him. He looks at the camera, shakes his head and mutters, “Heroines!”

Salman Khan doesn't want to work with John Abraham!

Though Salman Khan is a man of golden heart, once he strikes someone’s name off his good books, there seems to be no rethinking for him.

It is no secret that Salman Khan and John Abraham do not get along well with each other. The reports of animosity between them cropped after they returned from the Rockstars concert last year. Then there were also rumours that the vibes between Salman and John were quite cold while working in Ravi Chopra’s movie Baabul . Even filmmaker Nikhil Advani made sure not to touch the sensitive issue and kept no scenes featuring Salman and John together in his movie Salaam-e-Ishq .

The so-called rivalry between the two stars has so far remained somewhat subdued and has not come out in the open yet. But Salman seems to be having second thoughts about doing Rituparno Ghosh’s remake of the 1962 classic ‘Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam’ for which Ghosh has finalized Salman, John and Priyanka Chopra .

In the remake, Salman is supposed to play an alcoholic zamindar who prefers the company of courtesans than his beautiful wife, to be played by Priyanka Chopra. John is supposed to play the role of the servant who gets to know the inner suffering of the zamindar’s wife and share her loneliness.

The fact that Ghosh will be directing this timeless classic makes it a precious project. But reports have it that Salman is reluctant to work with John in Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam .

The film’s producer Pritish Nandy is not willing to comment about any casting changes in the movie. However, he does assert that the movie will indeed be made.

Just a few weeks back, we had reported that Salman has opted out of Boney Kapoor’s movie Milenge Milenge because he did not want to work with its hero Shahid Kapur . Salman and Shahid, too, apparently had a spat during a concert.

John Abraham to play a mountain climber

John Abraham is gearing up for some spunky stuff on the silver screen.

It is common knowledge that John is nowadays shooting for Vivek Agnihotri’s movie Goal in London. He plays a football player in the film. Even though the film’s shooting may continue till mid May, John is learnt to have agreed to act in director Soham Shah ’s next movie also.

John was one of the stars of Soham’s movie Kaal which was produced by Karan Johar’s production company. However, Soham is no longer working under Karan now.

Like ‘Kaal’, Soham’s next movie will also be an adventure thriller. It is learnt that John will play a mountain climber in it.

It is a little known fact that John is a trained mountain climber. Although he has been out of practice for sometime now, he will brush up his climbing skills before shooting the film.

John is quoted as saying that he wants to cultivate a sporty image in Bollywood films.

John Abraham, Vidya Balan in an intense love story

There is hardly any doubt that John Abraham and Vidya Balan make a good romantic couple on the silver screen.

The simmering, scintillating chemistry between John and Vidya was quite visible in Nikhil Advani’s movie Salaam-e-Ishq . Although the movie flopped at the box-office, John and Vidya arguably were the most passionate couple in the film.

Now, an upcoming filmmaker wants to make his directorial debut with a film starring John and Vidya in romantic roles. Vikram Motwane has been an assistant of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and has worked as choreographer in Deepa Mehta’s film Water .

For nearly two years, Motwane has reportedly been working on a script with writer Bhavani Iyer, and has been looking for a producer to finance the film. After many unsuccessful attempts, Motwane has now found producers.

Filmmaker Nikhil Advani and producer Mukesh Talreja will co-produce Motwane’s film under their banner Orion Films.

Nikhil says the reason why he decided to back the project is because he liked the movie’s script and Motwane’s credentials. Moreover, the film’s dialogues are written by Anurag Kashyap .

Motwane had reportedly spoken about this movie with John while working in ‘Water’ and the latter had shown interest. Later, when Motwane approached Vidya Balan, she too agreed to act in the movie.

Vidya and John apparently share a very good working relationship. They got along very well while shooting together for ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’.

Although they have to yet formally sign Motwane’s film, they are learnt to have given a verbal commitment to the project.

John Abraham's sporting skills put to test

John Abraham is less nervous and more excited about the fact that his sporting skills are being put to their ultimate test.

The handsome actor is presently in London, shooting for Vivek Agnihotri’s movie Goal in which he plays a footballer.

Before shooting the film John and his co-star Arshad Warsi underwent rigorous training in football under the guidance of former English Premiere league footballer Andy Ansah.

And now, when the shooting is on, John’s footballing skills are being put to test because eight of the eleven players in his team (in the film) are actual football players and John has to stand out from them because of his role in the movie.

But John is not intimidated by the presence of real footballers in his team. Football is his favourite game and he has been playing it since childhood. He is quite skilled in dribbling, nudging and kicking the ball.

John says he is “overexcited” while shooting the film. Even his ladylove Bipasha Basu is beside him.

John himself is a smoker too

The nation is facing a rather strange dilemma. To smoke or not to smoke, that's the question. And with his penchant for adapting Shakespeare who better equipped to portray this dilemma than Vishal Bharadwaj.

Moving ahead of Omkara, Vishal has produced an entire film on anti-smoking which will star John Abraham.

Says Vishal, "When Anurag Kashyap came to me with the script I was immediately hooked. I've always wanted to make a film against smoking. And this is a great script. Kumar Mangat (who produced Omkara) co-produced No Smoking with me."

When John Abraham showed an interest in the project Vishal met the actor. "John himself is an occasional smoker. He identified with the project. I think it's right to make a film against smoking if you believe in the cause.

To simply go around issuing warnings or giving Adults certificates to films showing smoking serves no purpose. We need to take a more mature view of the matter. I feel very strong about the issue and decided to produce a film."

The story of a man (Abraham) trying to quit smoking will be put across in an entertaining and non-judgemental fashion.

In the meanwhile, Vishal is working on his next directorial venture which will be co-produced jointly by UTV and Vishal. "I've an idea that I'm developing right now. It's not based on Shakespeare this time. But I'll definitely return to Shakespeare again."
